A WIDNES man is being hailed as a hero online after offering to support rebuilding work for free after a blaze at Manchester Dogs Home.
Around 50 dogs are thought to have died in the blaze last night after a teenage arsonist torched the building.
Paul Menzies, branch manager of Jewson in Widnes, posted on Facebook he would supply what he could to help.
He added: "I can't promise thousands of pounds worth of stuff but I will do what I can."
Comments on Twitter following the news included: "PAUL MENZIES If you see this (SOMEONE MAKE SURE HE DOES) YOU SIR ARE A STAR!" and "Paul Menzies what a HERO."
A spokesman for Jewson, on Tanhouse industrial estate in Widnes, said: “We are deeply saddened to learn of the fire on Thursday evening at Manchester Dogs Home and we extend our sympathies to all the staff and volunteers at the centre.
"We understand this tragic incident will have resulted in the loss of the animal’s shelter and as such we are offering some local support through the donation of materials from our Widnes branch."
