SCHOOLCHILDREN won the £100 first prize at Widnes Horticultural Show.

Year six pupils from St Michael’s Catholic Primary School entered an impressive array of artwork including collage and drawings all on an horticultural theme, to gain the prize.

More than 200 visitors attended the event at Ditton Community Centre on Sunday.

Show secretary Edward Hughes said:"The annual show is the culmination of our growing year and provides a showcase for the district's gardeners to display their skills.

“We had a fantastic selection of vegetables at this years show, the size of which had to be seen to be believed."

The Motley Ukes Ukulele Club performed lively sing-along music throughout the afternoon to create a festival feel to the show.

The Society hosts social events throughout the year and welcomes new members.
