CHESHIRE police are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision on the A533 Runcorn Widnes bridge.

The Silver Jubilee bridge was closed shortly after 11pm on Sunday, August 17 after a collision involving two cars.

The incident involved a black Audi A3 car, driven by a 27-year-old man from the Widnes area, and a blue Mini driven by a 20-year-old woman from the Ellesmere Port area.

The Audi was travelling northbound from Runcorn towards Widnes when it collided with the Mini, which was travelling in the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision, the driver of the Mini received serious injuries to her legs and was taken to Aintree Hospital for medical treatment, where her condition is described as serious but stable.

The passengers in the mini, a 22-year-old woman and 20-year-old man, both from the Ellesmere Port area, received minor injuries and were also taken to Aintree Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Audi was taken to Aintree Hospital for medical treatment of minor injuries.

Cheshire Police are seeking information from anybody who may have seen the collision or either vehicle prior to the collision taking place.
