STUDENTS at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic College are celebrating the 'best ever' A-level results today.

The Highfield Road school in Widnes saw 51 per cent of its year 13 students pick up A or A* grades with 71 per cent getting A* to B.

Principal Wendy White said: “With the scramble for places in top universities, the challenge for this year was to score excellent results in the traditional academic subjects.

"What is particularly pleasing is that maths, English, chemistry, biology, French and law all had exceptional results, meaning that our students can now go on to the best universities and the most prestigious courses.”

The school also saw 90 per cent of students get grades between A* to C.
