RUNCORN Old Town is blooming beautiful thanks to a new project.

Community groups, schools and residents in Runcorn have worked together to create a garden on High Street as part of the Old Town Bloom project.

Led by artists at Hazlehurst Studios, who ran a series of workshops with community groups and in schools, Old Town Bloom is funded by Runcorn Town Team and supported by Halton Borough Council’s Arts Development Team.

The aim of the project is to help rejuvenate the area and encourage the public to work together and enjoy the outdoor space.

From May community groups and schools painting and decorated old tin cans and planted them up with flowers, herbs and greenery to brighten up and raise the profile of the area.

Clr Ron Hignett, Halton Council's executive board member for the physical environment, said: "It’s great that the community has got involved in this project as they have had fun, learned a new skill and done their bit to help brighten up the town centre all at the same time.

“The Town team is pleased to support the initiative as it brings people together to provide something in a public area that everyone can enjoy.”
