THE cenotaph in Victoria Park, Widnes, was the setting for a memorial to mark 100 years to the day the First World War started.
Veterans, serving soldiers and residents were all part of the service of commemoration on Monday morning.
Poignantly a bayonet was fixed into the ground with a soldier's helmet resting on top along with a belt on the floor.
There were prayers for those from Halton who died in the Great War and wreaths were then laid by veterans associations, representatives from the emergency services, community organisations including the Scouts and residents.
