A RUNCORN resident had a surprise visitor on her 100th birthday.

Maria Adamson was celebrating her centenary at Beechcroft Nursing Home in Palacefields when Julia Tickridge, Labour’s prospective parliamentary candidate for Weaver Vale called in to congratulate her.

Julia said: “Maria is one of the oldest residents in Weaver Vale, born just before the First World War was declared in 1914.

“She has witnessed some momentous events over the last century and it’s a huge pleasure and honour to be able to meet residents like her.

“It’s important that we continue to ensure good services for the elderly and most vulnerable members of the community, particularly in helping to support residents to socialise and lead as an active life as they can.”

The Liverpool Ukulele Orchestra entertained Maria and other residents as they marked her special birthday at a garden party.
