A FAMILY open day is being held at Runcorn Fire Station from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, July 26.

Firefighters say the free event in Heath Road will have something for everyone.

There will be a wide range of activities including chip pan and road safety demonstrations, firefighter and fire cadet drills, and a barbecue and garden safety display.

Watch Manager Mark Sopp said: "This is a great way for the community to discover more about their local fire station. We would like as many people as possible to come along to the open day, have a great time and leave with some vital fire and road safety messages.

"We're also delighted to be presenting bikes at the open day, kindly donated by Motorworld Runcorn, to the two talented winners of our school's poster competition.

“We will be holding a raffle to raise money for our two chosen charities, Halton Haven Hospice and The Fire Fighters Charity.”

There will also be modern and vintage appliances on show as well as some specialist vehicles including the fire boat, fire bike and the new kitchen safety unit. This shows potential kitchen dangers as well as a replica of a kitchen damaged by fire.

Community groups including Cheshire Police, Age UK, the Service road safety unit, fire and emergency support service, Prince's Trust and many more will be taking part.

Other highlights include children's rides, facepainting and ice cream, all provided free of charge
