A NEW security device is being launched to curb anti-social behaviour in Runcorn Shopping Centre.

Security staff are trialling body cameras to capture anyone who becomes abusive.

Centre manager Karl Clawley said: “The body camera can be switched on by the operative if needed to record both sound and vision of anyone causing anti-social behaviour in the centre.

“Centre staff and retail staff should be able to work in a safe and secure environment that leads to a pleasant shopping experience here for all to enjoy.

“A small amount of people think they can come in here and give abuse to both my staff and that of my retailers. I’m confident the cameras will have the right impact on those that think this is acceptable behaviour.”

He said a shop watch scheme launched in November has reduced shoplifting.
