THE sun shone as girls from Halton’s primary schools competed in a kwik cricket competition.

Some 190 girls from 18 schools played as part of the Halton cricket development coaching and competition programme in partnership with Halton cricket development.

Cricket coaches from Halton cricket forum offered 10 hours coaching in each school beforehand.

Schools competing in the Widnes competition at Moorfield Cricket Club, Widnes, included Simms Cross, Fairfield Juniors, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour, Castle View, Farnworth, Oakfield, Ditton, St Michaels, Moorfield and St Bedes Juniors.

Oakfield were crowned 2014 winners and Our Lady of Perpetual Succour were runners up.

Schools taking part in the Runcorn competition at Runcorn Cricket Club included Runcorn All Saints, Gorsewood, St Berteline’s, The Brow, Beechwood, St Martins, The Holy Spirit and Moore.

St Bertelines A team were crowned winners and The Brow were runners up.

Halton Sports Development Officer and Karen Drake said: “All of the teams were presented with a kwik cricket certificate of participation, with the winners and runners up presented with a trophy.

“Thanks were given to Halton cricket development forum who have once again provided a great programme of coaching leading up to the competitions and also provide umpiring of the matches on the day.

“Junior coaching sessions were also promoted by the local cricket clubs encouraging the girls to carry on playing cricket outside of school.”

Oakfield, Farnworth, St Bertelines and The Brow will represent Halton at the Cheshire Girls kwik cricket county final on Wednesday, July 2 at Warrington Sports Club.
