HALTON firefighters are joining forces with Cheshire Police to prevent deaths and injuries on roads across Runcorn and Widnes.

On Saturday, June 14, firefighters will be at Morrisons in Widnes from 10.30am to 2.30pm and at Weston Motorcycles in Heath Road, Runcorn from 2pm to 5pm to offer road safety advice.

Sean Henshaw, Cheshire Fire Service’s group manager for Halton, said: "Firefighters will be out and about in the area throughout Halton to help raise awareness of road safety issues and encourage everyone to be aware of road safety, not only from behind the wheel but also when walking, cycling, skating or running, to keep everyone safe.

“We are committed to reducing the number of people killed and seriously injured on our roads and so we are delighted to support this important campaign."

The overarching message of this year's UK Road Safety Week from June 9-15 from emergency crews is 'Be Safe Out There'.

Cheshire Asst Chief Con Guy Hindle said: “Cheshire Police officers deal with the consequences of road traffic collisions on a daily basis.

“We have been working together with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service for several years to improve road safety, and I believe the reduction in the number of road casualties we have seen shows the effectiveness of our partnership work.

“The new memorandum of understanding between us will help to further strengthen this partnership and make the county’s roads even safer.”
