A COMMUNITY spirited schoolboy has had a go at cleaning the streets in Widnes.
Joseph Eley, aged eight, complained to Halton MP Derek Twigg about the amount of chewing gum and litter being dropped and suggested a big spring clean.
Dwayne Johnson, the council’s strategic director of communities, invited Joseph to meet the streetscene team.
Joseph, from Kershaw Street, Widnes, had a ride in a new town centre cleaning vehicle and helped pick up some litter.
His mum Lynsey said: “Joseph was thrilled to accompany the street cleaners. He really enjoyed seeing what hard work goes into keeping the streets clean."
Clr Ron Hignett, board member for the physical environment said: “I am really pleased with the enthusiasm that Joseph has shown in wanting to help improve his local environment.
"It is very encouraging that one of Halton’s young residents has taken the time to write and make suggestions to help reduce litter and chewing gum problems.”
