A MODEL of Hale village has been painstakingly created by a team of retired residents.

They belong to an art class and will be unveiling their work as part of Hale Carnival celebrations on Saturday, June 7.

Artist Naomi Hadden, from Church Road, said: “We discovered skills we didn’t know we had. It has been great fun.

“We dried tea bags to create soil and cut up table mats for thatched roofs. We’ve tried to make it as authentic as we could.”

Will Stevens has created a model of old Hale Hall.

Miniature models of St Mary’s church and graveyard, the lighthouse and estuary, the Childe of Hale’s cottage, Childe of Hale pub, the park lodge and Pepper Street school will be on show in the village hall from 12 noon Carnival elebrations begin with the crowning of the rose queen at midday.

The Manchester Regiment, The Royal British Legion, Liverpool PALS, 208 Field Hospital and Entente Cordiale Battlefield Tours will commemorate the centenary of the Great War.

An action packed day of family fun is planned in Hale Park.

Live music, falconry, classic cards, stalls, an activity tent, donkeys, Tai Chi, dog agility and stalls are among the many attractions.

A selection of home made cakes and light lunches will be served in Hale Village hall, where Laurie Morgan’s historic photographs will be exhibited.
