CHESHIRE Police are appealing for witnesses following a fire in Widnes.

The incident took place around 11:29am on Thursday, May 29 in premises located above Selfies Nightclub in Eleanor Street, Widnes.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were able to extinguish the fire, which caused damage to both upper levels and to the nightclub below.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident.

During the response, emergencies services discovered a cannabis factory located on the second floor of the building, containing approximately 50 cannabis plants.

Police and Fire are looking at the strong possibility that the fire was caused by the cultivation equipment used for the cannabis plants.

Anyone with information either about the fire or the cannabis plants is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident 299 of 29th May 2014.
