THE butterfly house in Victoria Park, Widnes, re-opens today at 11.30am, thanks to dedicated volunteers.

It has been closed for two years due to a lack of funds.

Victoria Park environment team has been working with Halton Council’s open spaces staff for more than four months to restore the butterflies’ home.

Various craft activities will be held on Saturday, May 31, and refreshments were served to celebrate its new launch.

Volunteers secured funding from community first Appleton ward panel.

VPET volunteer Steph Davies said: "We hope to raise awareness and support for the butterfly house and therefore make future funding bids stronger.”

They have collected more than 100 signatures and comments of support to keep the house open.

Many visitors have been disappointed to discover the butterfly house was closed.

The team is now appealing for more help as they only have eight regular volunteers.

They open the shop in the glasshouses and look after the park’s woodland walk.

They need people willing to give four hours a month, from 10.30am-12.30pm, or 12.30pm to 2.30pm on either Saturdays or Sundays, to keep the butterfly house open.

Anyone willing to help can contact Louise Nulty on 07930 388844 or e-mail nultylouise@gmail.com.

The butterfly house will remain open until September 30.
