A FAMILY fun day attracted more than 150 people to Wigg Island visitor centre to celebrate its re-opening.

Cheshire Wildlife Trust teamed up with The Knowledge Observatory to organise the event.

Children peered into the sky through telescopes and took part in lots of environmental activities.

They were shown how to identify birds and butterflies and learnt new skills at arts and crafts workshops.

There was also a Mersey Gateway exhibition.

Sue Davies, aged 53, who runs the Knowledge Observatory with her husband, Andrew, aged 52, said: “It was fantastic.

“A lot of people don’t realise we are here so this was an opportunity to show them what we do.”

The two organisations are running a series of joint events throughout the summer.

They are inviting communty groups, gardening clubs and organisations to celebrate international ‘sun’ day on June 22.
