A COURAGEOUS Runcorn mum who discovered she had lung cancer three months after having a kidney tumour removed has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Mum-of-three Roz Vaughan, aged 57, who blogs as the ‘cancer warrior’, came home from hospital last week five days after losing half her lung.

Colleagues at the 02 call centre in Preston Brook, where she works as a team manager, have put her name forward for Merseyside Woman of the Year.

Customer service manager Jayne Murphy, aged 45, from Palacefields, said: “Roz is absolutely amazing. She is so full of life, she is unbelievable.

“She is a great listener and has always been there for everyone. She is such a strong woman.

“Her blog is fantastic. She just wants to help others.

“She is an amazing inspiration.”

Upbeat Roz, from Heywood Crescent, nicknamed her kidney tumour ‘cling on’ and blogged her surgery in funny poems to urge cancer victims to fight back.

She said: “I’ve always been bright and bubbly. I do the blog to support others. I tell them to remain the person they are otherwise it’s going to win. I’m usually very fit and healthy and do all my own DIY.”

The day before she went into hospital she was laying flags in the garden.

She was a military tailor whilst her husband, Nicky, served with the Kings Regiment. She once had to shorten 700 pairs of dress trousers for soldiers to parade in front of the Queen.

Nicky, aged 52, now works as a petrol tanker driver and has given her great support with their three sons, Derek, aged 36, Robert, aged 34, and Darren, aged 32.

Roz added: “We’re like one big family at 02. They’ve been my backbone while I’ve been ill.

"I'm delighted that they think that I deserve this award. I'm just happy to be nominated. It will be great to just be there and recognised to get the message across to people."

The award ceremony will be held at the Crown Plaza, Liverpool on June 27.
