CONSUMER confidence has reached a record high, according to new research.

The Lloyds Bank Spending Power report has found that consumer confidence rose to 138 points in April 2014, the highest recorded index since the survey began in November 2010.

A Widnes accountant says new businesses are now being launched as people feel more sure about the future.

Nigel Holland from Holland & Co chartered accountants in Widnes Road, said: “Growing optimism in the economy, a raft of positive economic results and more money in consumer’s pockets are all adding to a general feeling that we are experiencing exciting economic times.

"The general air of positivity towards peoples’ finances has a domino effect on the consumer choice on their discretionary spend.

“At my firm, we are noticing that many people are deciding to set up their own business. Existing businesses are managing to make more sales, increase their profits and increase the value of their businesses.”
