AN open day at Wigg Island Visitor Centre in Runcorn promises plenty of family fun.

Lots of free activities will be available on Saturday, May 17, from 11am to 4pm.

Children will be shown how to identify birds and butterflies and there will be a chance to peer into a telescope.

Youngsters can have a go at various arts and crafts workshops.

Information about a range of summer events will be on display.

There will be a Mersey Gateway exhibition and refreshments will be available.

The Knowledge Observatory Limited, a social enterprise which raises funds through events and Astronomy courses to enable young people to take part in innovative learning programmes, has moved into the centre to team up with Cheshire Wildlife Trust.
