WIDNES pupils will be competing in the national finals of the UK’s Urban Debate League in The House of Lords, for the second time.

Wade Deacon will be up against the top 16 schools from across the UK on Monday, May 19.

English teacher Howard Mealey, who coordinates the Debating Society at the school, said: “Debating at Wade Deacon has come a long way in a short time with a lot of regional success.

“However, the holy grail of school debating is to be crowned the best school in the country and our students will be doing their very best to achieve this in London. I know they will do the school and the town proud.”

The team competes in a debating league throughout the year, accumulating points.

Wade Deacon is the only school from the north west in the final.

They were crowned north west regional debate champions last year and came fourth in the final.
