WIDNES Vikings are helping their supporters get fit for the summer by re-launching their bootcamps.

High intensity training has been shown to enhance cardio-vascular fitness, increase lean muscle mass and reduce body fat.

The sessions are suitable for all ages, abilities and fitness levels and will incorporate elements used by Vikings players in their training programmes.

Participants can work as hard as they want.

Clive Brewer, head of strength and conditioning at the club, who will lead the training, said: "Rugby League is the toughest physical sport in the world. We use the highest intensity training methods with the players.

“Having fans and members of the public being able to experience some of these methods for their own health and fitness makes sense. They can train under experienced strength and conditioning coaches who work with the first team daily.”

Denis Betts, Mick Cassidy and other members of Vikings staff will drop in to train at certain sessions.

First team professional players will also call in to encourage participants.

The camps take place every Monday and Friday (except Bank Holidays) from 7am to 8am on the i-pitch at the Select Security Stadium.

Widnes Vikings Boot Camp costs £5 per session. Participants are asked to use the Naughton Road entrance to the stadium.
