MOTORISTS were surprised to see racing driver Lee Morgan filling up his Dallara F307 race car on Friday at Asda’s petrol station in Runcorn.

Reigning Fomula Jedi champion Lee, aged 24, from Runcorn, was racing in the F3 cup with Grays Motorsport at Silverstone at the weekend and now lies sixth for the overall championship.

His motorsport passion started when he was only three.

Former Heath pupil Lee said: “My dad took me to Oulton Park. I wandered over to a quad bike ring. I was dying to have a go. They found a helmet to fit me and off I went.”

His mechanic dad, Steve, aged 59, has supported him as he developed his racing skills at indoor kart tracks from the age of six.

Lee competed at club, national and european championships and has now achieved success in F3.

Despite a horrific crash at 100mph in Germany in May, 2008, he is determined to succeed.

Lee said: “I broke my pelvis in three places and knocked a few ribs out. It put me out of racing for a year and has taken me a few years go get fully back into it.

“You’ve got to persevere. Even if something sets you back in life, you’ve got to keep pushing and go for it.

“My big dream is to make it to Formula 1 but a realistic goal is to become a personal driver for one of the big companies.”

Lee is appealing to local businesses for sponsorship.
