FREE books were given away to residents across Halton to celebrate World Book Night.
Library staff handed a selection of titles to people who don’t regularly read to help nurture a love for books.
Librarians mingled with shoppers at Widnes Market and Runcorn Shopping Centre to encourage more people to try reading.
Residents who enjoy reading were also invited to give away one of their books to a friend.
The event is run across the country by The Reading Agency to give everyone an equal chance in life by helping people become confident and enthusiastic readers.
