A NEW playground has opened in Runcorn, thanks to a £50,000 grant from WREN.

Sanders Hey play area in Brookvale has been completely refurbished after being closed for five years.

Norton south Clr Martha Lloyd Jones, who spearheaded the project, said “This a much needed renovated state-of-the-art playground for the children of Brookvale which will give the whole community many happy hours of fun.”

Children and families from the neighbourhood were invited to have a say on the type of equipment that was chosen.

A series of workshops and activities were held to encourage residents to share ideas.

The Mayor of Halton, Clr Margaret Ratcliffe, opened the playground on Tuesday. Halton Council’s area forum and Your Housing Group also donated money towards the project.

Wren, a not-for-profit business, funds community projects to improve the lives of people who live close to landfill sites.
