A RUNCORN family enjoyed afternoon tea in the Mayor’s parlour at Runcorn Town Hall.

Betty and Dave Jameson, from Sandy Lane, won the prize in an auction at the Mayor’s Ball, which raised £2,255 for The Cancer Patient Support Fund at Halton Hospital, Halton Entertainment Art Regional Theatre School, and The Canal Boat Adventure Project.

Halton Mayor Clr Margaret Ratcliffe shared cakes and sandwiches with the couple, their daughter Wendy Taylor and granddaughter Olivia Taylor.

Mr Jameson is chairman of Runcorn Rotary Club.

His family was given a guided tour of the Town Hall and picked up at home by the Mayor's civic car.

Cllr Ratcliffe said: "They really enjoyed the afternoon. We had a wonderful time. I showed them round the whole building. We went into every room. I think they got a real sense of history."

She told Olivia, a pupil at The Heath School, about her fascinating role as Mayor.

Clr Ratcliffe added: “I have been on the most incredible journey ever. It has been filled with sheer wonder, excitement and delight.

“I have visited so many places, met the most interesting and wonderful people. I am lost for words to describe what a fantastic year it has been.

“I have likened it to being one of the England squad after winning the 1966 World Cup. Every day and every event is that exhilarating.”
