A POSTMAN was assaulted as he delivered cash to a Widnes Post Office.

The 56-year-old man placed items in a counter hatch inside The Ball Post Office in Liverpool Road.

An offender, hiding in an internal photo booth, grabbed hold of the items.

He pushed the postman with both hands, causing him to fall. The offender then attempted to leave the premises but a member of the public intervened.

After a short scuffle, the offender broke free and managed to escape from the premises on to a busy main road.

The postman received minor injuries and the member of the public who intervened was shaken but not injured.

The incident happened shortly before 11am on Wednesday, April 16.

The offender is described as a white with a pale complexion. He is believed to be in excess of 6ft tall, late 20s and of proportionate build.

He was wearing a peaked baseball cap, grey hooded jogging top, dark blue jeans and black trainers.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or observed somebody of this description behaving suspiciously in the vicinity of the post office on Liverpool Road should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 312 of 16 April.
