A SPRING clean is giving Widnes residents a chance to get rid of their unwanted household items.

The community recycling skip scheme will give people in Broadheath, Ditton, Hale and Hough Green an opportunity to have a clear out.

Halton Clr Stef Nelson, board member for environmental services, said: “These schemes provide residents with an easily accessible way of getting rid of unwanted items.

“Not only would we encourage residents to use the recycling skips to benefit themselves, but by doing so they will help save money on costly landfill disposal."

The focus is on recycling and provides residents with the opportunity to get rid of any wood, garden waste, soil, scrap metal, bricks or rubble, hard plastics and small electrical items.

Householders will be required to sort their items into specific skips for the recycling of these different materials, but council officers will be on hand to provide help and advice.

The schemes have been supported by the local councillors within those areas and are part of a project that is being organised by Halton Council with local area forum funding.

The skips will be in Broadheath on Saturday, April 5, Ditton on Saturday, April 12, Hale on Saturday, April 19, and Hough Green on Saturday, April 26.
