A man seriously injured after being crushed between two vehicles in Widnes is still in intensive care.

Police confirmed the man was hurt at the Tesco distribution centre in Desoto Road, West Bank.

The victim, who has not been named, was air lifted to Aintree Hospital.

North West Ambulance Service said the man, in his 60s, had suspected crush injuries to his chest.

A rapid response vehicle and an advanced paramedic were first at the scene.

Halton Council’s environmental health department and Cheshire Police are now investigating the incident.

A Council spokesman said: “The accident involved a male employee of a sub contractor being struck by a reversing HGV tractor unit. The precise cause of the accident is still under investigation.

“The male suffered crush injuries to his chest.

“He remains in intensive care but his injuries are not life threatening.

The accident happened shortly after 7.30am on Thursday, March 20.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “The man sustained serious injuries. Initial reports suggest the man was trapped between two vehicles.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “The police are currently carrying out an accident investigation and we’re helping them with their enquiry.”
