HALTON’S four libraries are under intense scrutiny as the council faces a further £15 million cut in Government funding in 2014/15.

At present, readers can use libraries at Halton Lea and the old town in Runcorn and Victoria Square and Ditton in Widnes.

Opening times, staffing, the purchasing of books, and the mobile library are among many issues being looked at.

The future of the cafes at Widnes and Halton Lea are also being examined.

Residents will be given a chance to voice their opinions when the review is completed and the proposals are published.

A Halton Council spokesman said: "All aspects of Halton Council's library services are being reviewed. The library café is part of the review.

“Following the conclusion of the review in the spring there will be an opportunity to comment on the proposals."
