IMAGINATIVE children are being challenged to design a garden.

Southport Flower Show is inviting all junior school pupils to create their own eco friendly garden, based upon this year’s theme of ‘Brazil’.

A team of judges will pick two winning designs, which will be constructed for this year’s show, which takes place from August 14 to 17.

Ray Roukin, general manager of Southport Flower Show, said: “It’s lots of fun giving primary school children the chance to get involved in the show.

“We’re encouraging the incorporation of recycled matter as well as lots of colour and plants.

“The two winners will not only have their gardens created and displayed but will also be invited to the show along with their families and teachers.

“They’ll also receive £500 to enhance their school’s grounds and £50 gift vouchers for themselves. Ten runners up, with families and teachers, will also be invited to the show and will receive £50 for their school’s grounds too.”

The winning gardens will be seen by the show’s 70,000 visitors.

The competition is sponsored by the West Lancashire’s Freemasons’ charity and is open to pupils in years three, four, five and six.

The closing date is Friday, May 30, 2014.

The Southport Flower Show is the largest independent show of its kind in the country and will have over 350 exhibitors and 18 show gardens.
