A NEW gym is being built as part of a major new development on Widnes waterfront.

Pure Gym is opening on the Venture Fields site beside the cinema, ice rink, bowling alley and restaurants at The Hive leisure park in September.

Council Leader, Clr Rob Polhill, said: “It is great to see work getting underway. The gym will be a big attraction and is in a great position alongside The Hive which gets really busy, so the two should complement each other very well.”

Barwood Developments has teamed up with Halton Council to develop the 11-acre site developed for leisure, trade and industrial use.

The finished development will complement others in the surrounding area, as the gym will be opposite The Hive, with the trade/industrial units fronting Dennis Road and the businesses on Widnes Trade Park.

Clr Ron Hignett, board member for physical environment, said: “I am pleased we are working with Barwood and that this development is moving along well. Venture Fields is an important site at Widnes Waterfront and I’m sure there will be a lot of interest in it as what is being offered is a great opportunity.”

Andrew Dickman, director of Barwood Developments North, added: “We are pleased to be working with Halton in delivering the next phases of development on the Waterfront and look forward to releasing news in the very near future of what's coming next.”

Pure Gym opened in Runcorn just before Christmas.
