A NEW music workshop is being launched in Widnes.

Professional musicians will be on hand to give young people practical tips on how to develop the skills needed to become a performer, player, DJ or sound technician.

A team from Creative Music Education will provide tuition, mentoring, and professional development to aspiring artists.

The workshops will be held in the CRMZ youth centre in Kingsway, which has industry standard facilities and an impressive range of DJ and music production kit.

Halton Clr Ged Philbin, board member for children, young people and families, said: "We have seen from events such as Halton's Got Talent what skills people have in the borough. This is a great opportunity to develop them further."

The workshops start on Thursday, March 6, and will run from 4.30pm to 6.30pm every Thursday.

Participants will learn and develop DJ and music production skills, how to sing, play drums, guitar, bass and keyboard, form a band, write your own song, as well as promoting and performing at local gigs.

Organiser Si Price, from Halton Council, said: "We have some outstanding music facilities in CRMZ and it’s fantastic to be able to bring in artists of this calibre to deliver workshops in the venue."

The project is organised by Halton Council’s CRMZ project, Warrington Accent Music Hub and Score Creative Education as part of an on-going commitment to improve opportunities for all children and young people living in the borough.
