A TRAINEE hairdresser hopes to turn heads when she appears in a new BBC Three TV competition, ‘Hair’.

Katie Crompton, a student at Riverside College, will compete against eight contestants in a bid to be crowned the best British amateur hair stylist.

She applied for the show after spotting an advert in a magazine.

Katie, aged 30, said: “I have always enjoyed styling hair and after completing my fashion degree at The University of Central Lancashire, I decided to return to College to do a hairdressing course.

“When I saw the advert for the TV programme I thought that it would be a great opportunity and a fantastic experience.

“After my initial application, I was asked to make a video and complete a questionnaire and then was asked to do a screen test and meet the producers of the show.”

The six part show starts on Tuesday, February 25, at 9pm on BBC Three.

Katie, from Frodsham, added: “I was really excited when I realised I had been chosen as one of the final eight contestants.

“I am looking forward to putting my skills and creativity to the test and am hoping to get as far in the competition as possible as one contestant will have to leave the show each week!”

Diane White, head of the centre of excellence in hair and beauty at Riverside College said: “Katie is very creative and I am sure she will do really well on the show.

“It is a great opportunity for her to showcase her talents to the judges on the show and an audience of thousands of TV viewers. “We are all looking forward to watching her on TV and wish her lots of luck on the show.”
