AN Indian storytelling workshop celebrated the opening of a new school library in Runcorn called The Story Shack.

Pupils at Our Lady’s RC Primary School in Palacefields have linked up with children in a school in India and Valencia in Spain.

Youngsters have written to their overseas friends after gaining an international school award.

Head teacher Janet Ward said: “We place reading at the heart of our curriculum, firmly believing that reading teaches children about the world around them.

“Through reading, they learn about people, places and events outside their own experience.

“They are exposed to ways of life, ideas and beliefs about the world which may be different to those which surround them.”

The Mayor of Halton, Clr Margaret Ratcliffe opened the library.

Deputy head teacher Nedra Sothern was commended for all her hard work setting up the project.

Prajyoti Madhusudan captured children’s imaginations with her Indian stories.
