TALENTED Widnes teenagers stole the show with their vibrant interpretation of the popular hit musical Grease.

Students at St Peter & Paul Catholic College entertained more than 1,500 people and could have staged another two performances, there was so much demand for tickets.

Drama teacher and show director Georgina McGarry said: “The standard of auditions was so high that we created two casts to showcase the high calibre of talent.”

She praised dedicated pupils who have been working on the production since October.

She also commended the backstage team for creating an ambitious set, complete with an impressive ‘Greased Lightning’ car.

Anna McGarry, aged 15, and Georgina Crank, aged 16, shared the role of Sandy, made famous by Olivia Newton John.

Sam Mottram, aged 17, who was a roving reporter on the Paul O’Grady Show, played John Travolta’s role of Danny Zuko, on alternative nights with Michael Clark, aged 15.

Primary school pupils from St Bede’s, St Basil’s and St John Fisher also took part in the drama.

The Mayor of Halton, Clr Margaret Ratcliffe watched the show on Thursday.
