A FOOD delivery man was attacked and robbed as he delivered a late night takeaway in Runcorn.

The 66-year-old victim was at a car park in Village Close, Castlefields when he was confronted by a man who assaulted him as he demanded cash.

The offender ran off with the money when he was approached by local residents.

DC Justin Jones, who is investigating the incident, said: “He was shocked following the incident and suffered minor injuries from being assaulted."

"We are currently following up a number of lines of enquiry in relation to this incident and would urge anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed what happened to contact us immediately.”

The assault happened at around 10.30pm on Sunday, February 2.

The victim did not need hospital treatment.

The offender is described as a white male, 6ft to 6ft 1in tall, of medium build, with a light coloured beard.

He was wearing a blue scarf across his face and glasses as well as black trousers, a black jacket with a grey hooded top underneath.

Runcorn police would also like to hear from anyone who saw any people acting suspiciously in the area around Village Close at the time of the robbery.

Detectives are also appealing to anyone who was seen in the area of Chester Close making a call from a public phone box at around 10 pm.

DC Jones added: “We are committed to tackling this type of crime and we want to reassure residents that we will do all we can to ensure that those responsible are traced and brought to justice. However we need help from members of the community.”
