TALENTED trainee hairdressers and make up artists demonstrated their flair and imagination at a challenging competition.
Riverside College students were challenged to create designs for the front covers of magazines.
The event was judged by three respected hairdressing veterans.
Jonathan Hunt, a hairdresser for 43 years and owner of Panache in Farnworth, chose the winners with Darren Tyrer, who owns a salon in Cronton and has 28 years’ experience and Moira Witter whose 43-year hairdressing and tutoring career has included working at Panache, Herbert of Liverpool and Riverside College.
Creative Fantasy winner Mia Hogan, aged 24, said: “I can’t believe it. I’ve never won anything in my life before so I’m made up. It’s been very stressful preparing for the event but it’s paid off and I couldn’t be happier.
“My cousin, Maeghan Garret, volunteered as my project model. I chose a space odyssey theme. I’m really proud to have impressed the judges with my work.”
“The course has been amazing and this has given me a lot of confidence for the future. I’m considering a career in teaching or applying with Steiner to work on their cruise ships.”
Jonathan Hunt said: “I was really impressed with the fantasy category. I can see a great future for them in hairdressing. We really enjoy coming to the college and seeing staff and students.”
Darren Tyrer said: “I was impressed with the variety of different skills and techniques shown and the overall high standard from the competitors.”
Moira Witter said: “I was impressed with the high standards and really enjoyed taking part in it all.”
