SINGER Gary Barlow and actor James Corden made a surprise appearance on screen at a Widnes children’s song and dance show at The Brindley.

The stars recorded personal video messages to congratulate the Andrew Curphey Theatre Company on its fifth birthday.

Founder Andrew Curphey, aged 27, from Ditton, said: “It was a surprise for the children.

“Gary’s mum, Marjorie, is our patron, a big supporter, and comes to all of our shows. She was able to set this up for us which is lovely.

“I knew about it but had to keep it a secret.”

Gary was filming a documentary with James so they both decided to record individual messages.

The children performed two shows and are now rehearsing for their Summer Spectacular in July.

Former Bankfield pupil, Andrew, attended Cronton Sixth Form College and studied for a drama degree at Chester University.

He said: “I’m living the dream. I am so lucky to be able to do what I enjoy.

“You’ve got to have passion to be able to put everything you have into it.”

Andrew runs classes at Ditton Community Centre in Dundalk Road, Widnes, every Friday from 5.30pm-7pm for children aged five to 11 and from 7pm-8.30pm for youngsters aged 11-19.
