A RUNCORN woman was fined £330 for dropping a cigarette outside KFC.

Sara Redican, aged 41, of Morval Crescent, Runcorn, was caught dropping the butt outside her car in the car park of KFC on Lugsdale Road, Widnes.

Officers carried out a DVLA Web Enabled Enquiry to track the address of the woman, found to be Redican, and issued the Widnes resident a questionnaire regarding the incident.

After failing to send the questionnaire to the local council in a pre-paid envelope, officers returned to Redican’s home to collect the questionnaire.

Within the questionnaire, Redican admitted to being the driver of the Citroen Saxo officers had flagged, and, consequently, the person who had left the cigarette butt on the ground.

A fixed penalty notice was then sent for the deposit of litter in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990. But, Redican failed to pay the notice which led to the court hearing at Warrington Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

In her absence, Redican received a financial penalty of £100 together with the mandatory £20 victim surcharge. She was also ordered to pay the council’s costs of £210.
