POLICE have traced a man they wanted to speak to in connection with a serious assault in Widnes town centre.

A 49-year-old victim was left unconscious with a fractured eye socket and broken nose after an attack near the Imperial pub.

CCTV images of two men detectives wanted to talk to were issued last week.

The man, a 39-year-old, has now been arrested in connection with the incident and bailed pending further enquiries.

Police today appealed for help in finding a second man.

The attack happened in the early hours of Sunday, December 22 in Albert Road at the junction of Robert Street.

Anyone with information can call Cheshire Police on 101.
