DETECTIVES today issued CCTV stills of two men they wish to speak to in connection with a serious assault in Widnes town centre.

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday, December 22 in Albert Road at the junction of Robert Street near to the Imperial Pub.

The victim, a 49-year-old man, was walking along Albert Road at around 1am and was assaulted as he past the pub, rendering him unconscious.

He was then further assaulted whilst on the floor by a number of people.

The victim sustained a number of facial injuries as a result of the incident including a fractured eye socket, broken nose and bruising. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

DC Richard Kirby said: "It is believed that there were a number of people in the area at the time who may have witnessed what happened and I am urging them to come forward."

A 27-year-old man from Runcorn has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
