CHILDREN will soon be able to enjoy new play equipment, thanks to a £50,000 grant from WREN.

Sanders Hey playground in Brookvale, which was closed five years ago because of health and safety concerns, is now being restored.

Arena Homes community project officer Eddy Weston said: “We have always wanted this to be a family area. The response from local residents has been overwhelming.”

Community groups, children and parents, joined Halton Clrs Ron Hignett and Martha Lloyd Jones, council officials and contractors to kick start the project at a special ceremony on Tuesday.

The existing equipment is being dismantled to pave way for the new playground.

A series of workshops was held for people in the neighbourhood to share ideas.

Models and pictures created by children are on display in Brookvale Community Centre.
