Police appeal after gun shots fired in Widnes

Two men kicked at the front door of the home of a 20-year-old Eastern European man in Dickson Street, after shouting racial abuse at him.

DC Stephen Deehan said: "Our ongoing enquiries have so far established that the weapon used was a BB gun, and analysis of the front door has shown minor damage. Fortunately the victim was not injured but was understandably very shaken by what happened.

"We take any incident of this nature extremely seriously and are doing all we can to trace the offenders.

“Officers have been out and about in the Dickson Street area today carrying out house-to-house enquiries and speaking to local people offering reassurance.

"Anyone with any concerns,or any information, which could assist with our enquiries, is urged to speak to a local officer."

The disturbance happened between 4.50am and 5am on Tuesday, January 7.

The victim, a 20-year man of eastern European origin, had been walking down the street when he became involved in a verbal alteraction with two men.

They shouted racial abuse at him and he shouted back before making his way home.

Later that night, the same two men have returned to his home and started kicking at the front door. One of the men is believed to have been in possession of a BB gun, which was discharged causing minor damage to the front door.

The first offender is described as being in his early 20s, around 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a black balaclava with the lower part of his face covered, a black waterproof jacket and black tracksuit bottoms.

The second offender is described as white, aged in his mid 20s, around 6ft tall, of medium build and also had a local accent. He had facial stubble, blue eyes, dark brown cropped hair and was wearing a light grey Adidas tracksuit.
