A DEDICATED fundraiser set himself an ambitious goal a year ago.

Widnes Vikings fan Martyn Gill pledged to run 2,013 miles to raise £2,013 for Claire House.

This children’s hospice is close to his heart as it supports his nephew, Alfie Gill, who has cerebral palsy.

Telefonica worker Martyn completed his challenge and topped his target, collecting £3,625.24 to help children with life limiting illness.

Martyn, aged 33, of Harebell Close, Upton Rocks, Widnes, said: “The last 20.13km were tough but there was no way I wasn’t going to get over the line.

“If I had to walk it then that’s what I would have done but in the end I did it in a decent time just jogging.”

His friends, family, colleagues and well wishers have dug deep to support him.

And nearly everyone who pledged has ran 5.5km, the distance he had to tackle every day.

Martyn added: “The support I received has been incredible.

“I’ve been running a marathon distance every week during 2013 and it’s been enjoyable but the main thing is that together we’ve all played a part in raising money for Claire House.

“The work the Hospice does is just amazing and every step I ran was for them.”

Claire House Children’s Hospice is all about laughter, positivity and joy. The charity relies on donations and couldn’t survive without people like Martyn.

He capped off his fundraising achievements in style with a cameo appearance at his team’s festive derby with Warrington Wolves.
