PASSENGERS are encouraged to keep their New Year’s resolution to get fit by turninging their daily commute into a mini workout.

Arriva Buses has launched FitBus, top tips on how travellers can use their journey to do some simple exercises.

Debra Heaton, marketing and communications manager of Arriva North West, said: “Fit Bus is a light hearted guide to how using the bus can keep you fit. The guide shows bus users how simple changes to their daily bus routine can have a big impact.”

“Switching from travelling by car to bus can help people save money, make new friends and improve their green credentials by reducing the impact on the environment.”

By simply changing the stop you get off to one or two stops further away, you can give yourself a longer walk.

If your bus is a double decker, take a seat upstairs giving your legs a workout.

While you wait for your bus, you could run on the spot or perform some stretches.

Every time the bus stops, you could do a seat squat by holding yourself stationary above the seat.
