A CANNABIS factory has been discovered by police in Runcorn.

More than 1,000 plants were found growing in industrial premises in Warrington Road, Manor Park after a tip-off from a member of the public.

Police officers seized 1,241 plants of various sizes and removed them for forensic examination.

DS Ian Allen, of the Northern Proactive Policing Team, said: "This has been a significant find and fortunately, we have been able to put a stop to it.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would urge anyone who has any information, which could assist with our enquiries, to come forward. Information from members of the public is vital in the fight against drug related crime.

"Drug use and supply is an issue of concern for the local community and we continue to do all we can to put a stop to this sort of activity.

“Drug related activity is not acceptable. It is an issue we take extremely seriously and local officers will continue to react swiftly and positively to any information in relation to drug related crime in the area."

The drugs were found on Tuesday, December 11.

Anyone with any information about drug related activity in Runcorn is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Two men, aged 24 and 30, were arrested at the scene and have now been charged with the production of cannabis.
