EXCITING plans have been unveiled to create 86 new waterside houses as part of an ambitious £150 milllion project to regenerate Runcorn’s 44-year-old Castlefields estate.

Some 830 new homes have already been built and 300 refurbished.

The latest development named Bridgewater Gardens will see 27 two-bedroom, 51 three-bedroom and eight four-bedroom houses built on the site of the former derelict Barge pub and restaurant.

Halton Clr Ron Hignett, board member for physical environment, said: “It’s great to see more new family homes being built in such a fantastic location close to so many new amenities.

“When the Masterplan for Castlefields was drawn up, residents said they wanted to see more high quality housing options in the neighbourhood. Being right next to the Bridgewater Canal and with a contemporary design these new homes will have a real aspirational feel.”

Around 1,200 concrete deck dwellings have been demolished as developers teamed up with Halton Council to give the neighbourhood a new look.

A £11m village square now has a health centre, community centre, shops and apartments.

A £2.6m Phoenix park features a pavilion, children’s play area and purpose-built skateboard and BMX facilities.

Regeneration specialist Keepmoat is confident families will be moving into the new waterside homes in spring 2014.

David Wroe, Keepmoat’s new build managing director for the north west, said: “The plan for Bridgewater Gardens is to bring highly aspirational and affordable new homes to Runcorn.

“As a company we are passionate about regeneration so we are proud to be part of scheme that will breathe new life into Castlefields and create some of the most sought after homes in Runcorn.”
