Exciting competition offers Runcorn entrepreneur rent-free store for a year
A UNIQUE opportunity is being created for a budding entrepreneur, thanks to World readers.
Owners of Runcorn Shopping Centre were so impressed by your ideas for new shops, they are launching an exciting ‘Dragons-Den’ style competition.
They will be inviting anyone interested in setting up their own company to submit their business plans.
The centre is being revitalised with a new name, a new logo and a new image.
They are looking for a trader who can bring something that is not currently offered by the centre’s 70 retailers.
The lucky winner will be offered a unit at the centre free of charge for a year, plus other benefits.
Karl Clawley, aged 48, manager of Runcorn Shopping Centre, said: “Our letting agents absolutely loved all the ideas World readers came up with, including a butchers, greengrocers, fruit and veg and a shoe shop.
“They were very impressed that the local community wants to get involved and help us to improve the centre.”
Details of the competition will be unveiled in the World in the New Year.
A shortlist of finalists will be invited to present their business plans to a panel of experts.
Unlike the TV show, the ‘dragons’ will not be investing their own cash, as the rent and service charges will be provided by owners of the centre.
Competitors will have to demonstrate that their business ideas are feasible and will attract shoppers.
Karl added: “Anyone interested could get their thinking caps on now. We will invite them to present their business plans, strategy, explaining how and why they believe it will work.
“This is a very exciting opportunity and could kick start someone’s dream.
“Who knows, this could be the start of something really big. They could end up with a chain of stores.”
