Runcorn Shopping Centre manager welcomes ideas from World readers
WORLD readers are influencing the future of the newly named Runcorn Shopping Centre.
We invited you to tell us what you would like to see in the 42-year-old development and we were inundated with suggestions.
Mandy Jackson said: ”We would love to see a butchers like Redmans that is sorely missed.”
Maureen Higham said: “We need a decent shoe shop, a fresh meat butcher, fresh fish and fruit and veg shop.”
David Hollins said: “I would like to see a music store.”
Manager Karl Clawley said: “I absolutely love the fact that readers have come back to you with so many ideas. It proves the community really does care about its local shopping centre.
“I will take their suggestions to my monthly management meeting next week where I sit with all concerned parties and letting agents who support me. I can tell them that this is what our people want.”
Changes are already in the pipeline.
A national food and drink retailer has been signed up and the empty WH Smiths unit has been let, though names are being kept under wraps.
Karl added: “We would love a local butcher and a fruit and veg shop. I would invite any interested parties to get in touch.
“There will be changes. This time next year there will be a lot stronger retail offer, but we have a lot of work to do in the coming months to ensure this building is ready for what modern retailers need. It is 40 years old.
“It’s a marathon, not a sprint.”
Karl hopes to organise a coffee morning in the coming months to meet shoppers.
He said: “I would love people to come in have a chat about what they would like to see here.”
