Halton residents invited to send gifts to troops
4:20pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
HALTON residents are invited to fill a shoebox with gifts for troops serving in Afghanistan.
Operation Shoebox UK is run by an enthusiastic team of volunteers.
A spokesman for the charity said: “We have been working tirelessly and will continue to do so to support our troops in Afghanistan.
“We work within the guidelines and agreement of the British Military and the Ministry of Defence and the BFPO.
“With your help we support our troops throughout their tour, every single day, all year and not just at Christmas.”
More than 55,000 shoeboxes have been sent in the past six years.
Certain items including chocolate, aerosols, glass jars, bottles and alcohol cannot be accepted.
Don’t forget to include a personal message if you wish.
Soldiers have particularly requested toothbrushes, toothpaste, lip salve, small tins of vaseline, magazines, newspapers, small packets of wet wipes, shower gels, foot powder, mints, jelly babies and salted nuts.
The deadline for Christmas parcels is October 30.
